Edmonton Urban Landscape Photography Locations

In this list I hope to detail some of my favourite landscape photography locations in Edmonton. I am not claiming these are the best spots or the only spots, just ones that I like. You can find most of these locations in my urban landscapes portfolio available for print and licensing.

Walterdale Bridge Area

I do not think a list like this is complete without mentioning the Walterdale Bridge. I think we are a bit saturated with images of the bridge right now, but it is relatively new and a great looking bridge. I like this area because of the different compositions available. You are not tied to one spot that has a clear view of downtown or the bridge so you can be more creative with how you set up. The paths going under and beside as well as over the bridge really open up many different photos and I often walk away with a unique photo to me each time I go there. Also now that the Rossdale powerplant also lights up at night there are even more possibilities to be had down there.

Dawson Bridge & McNally

The Dawson Bridge is often overlooked as a photo spot these days but I believe it still can produce nice photos. Also if you go up the hill there is a wonderful lookout of downtown that lines up nicely for a sunrise lit Edmonton downtown. This can be a challenging sunset photo location to get your exposure down because you will be shooting right into the sun but that also means that you can play around with sunstars and the buildings. The other thing I like about this spot is that you can walk along the paths both at the top and bottom of the hill and get some nature photos while you are at it.

Constable Ezio Faraone Park

I chose this spot because it is a gateway to other places. From here you can easily get to the legislature grounds where there are many good photos to be had and a variety of looks depending on the season. Also you can get on the high level bridge and even cross it to shoot back at downtown or get some cool street photography in the garneau area. There is also a good view from the park itself. One of the advantages of this park is the side of the river it is on. I have found many times that during a sunset the nice light is south of downtown or the city so shooting downtown does not capture that light.

Low Level Bridge

This one is probably my go to spot. I feel that there are so many possibilities from one parking spot. You can get up close and photograph the bridge from the same level or below. Additionally you can back up onto the James Macdonald Bridge to get some light streaks from the cars. You can also go either way down the walking trails to get different angles of downtown. Finally you can go on a short walk over to the Funicular or the Muttart which can make a full evening of photography very busy and get you some steps as well if you are in a steps challenge.
